Welcome to Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW)!
#GEW2014 kicks off today with over 35,000 supporting events – from policy roundtables to networking events and bootcamps – taking place in 150 countries across the world across this important week. This year, GEW will also see the first ever Women’s Entrepreneurship Day #WomenseDay #WED which takes place on Wednesday.
In Bristol, we have our own event lined up which marks the team at Bristol Woman’s passion for the value of entrepreneurship and the entrepreneurial spirit for all women in Bristol. Taking place on Thursday – just one day after the inaugural #WomenseDay #WED on Wednesday – we are running a Bristol Woman Leadership and Entrepreneurial Alliances workshop hosted by myself as Bristol Woman CEO and the inimitable Cheryl Gourlay, NatWest’s South West Enterprise Manager. I’m delighted to say that our GEW event on Thursday is sold out – which is not surprising really given the quality and personality of our speakers and the passionate interest we have found amongst women in Bristol for Bristol Woman’s activities and events. Of course, I am biased, but nevertheless delighted!
We are particularly pleased that this year will see female entrepreneurship taking centre stage in #GEW14 with #WomenseDay #WED setting the tone. Bristol’s thriving economy alongside the fact that our city is a hive of creativity buzzing with entrepreneurial ideas, start-ups and independent spirits makes it a perfect city for fresh entrepreneurial micro-adventures. For women, still too often marginalised, entrepreneurship can be a real breath of fresh air with all the benefits it brings from self-actualisation to independent prosperity and freedom. Our Bristol Woman workshop on Thursday will give our wannabe entrepreneurs just the right range of advice in terms of building the confidence to pursue their entrepreneurial goals in Bristol and unleash their potential.
The world – and Bristol – needs more entrepreneurs – and undoubtedly more women entrepreneurs. The Bristol Woman team is proud to be part of the #GEW14 movement and playing its own part in supporting women’s entrepreneurship.
We are also incredibly proud that just under a year ago, we launched Bristol Woman – and our Bristol Woman magazine – onto an unsuspecting but highly responsive Bristol! Now, nearly 365 days later, we can boast 75 extraordinary women writers, 4 directors, 3 editors, 2 interns. 5 volunteers, 3 photographers, 1 iStore app, 1 Kindle mag and shortly, the publication of our 4th Bristol Woman magazine issue. Our 4th issue will be published on Tuesday November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls, and concludes an amazing year for Bristol Woman as it has changed women’s representation in the media in Bristol and beyond. You won’t be surprised to hear that we will be celebrating in style with our Bristol Woman community on the night of the 25th November and toasting a vibrant and exhilarating second year of Bristol Woman. Who knows, we might even go national! Watch this space!
Wishing all of our Bristol Woman readers an excellent Women’s Entrepreneurship Day and an exciting and fruitful Global Entrepreneurship Week 2014!
